Dr. Tanya Martin

Dr. Tanya Martin is a Clinical Psychologist, Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, College Professor and Author. She completed her undergraduate education, at Marygrove College, in Detroit, Michigan where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She went on to attend the Center for Humanistic Studies, in Detroit, Michigan where she earned three graduate degrees; a Master’s Degree in Humanistic and Clinical Psychology, a Specialist Degree in Humanistic, Clinical Psychology, and Educational Psychology and a Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology. She is also member of the Board of Trustees, at the Michigan School of Professional Psychology, (her alma mater) formerly known as the Center for Humanistic Studies.

 

Dr. Martin works with teens, adults, singles, couples and families in therapy. She also teaches Psychology and Sociology courses, at Oakland Community College, where she received the Student Life Award (5/2011), for demonstrating excellence in expanding and enhancing, learning opportunities for students. Dr. Martin also received: The National Society of Leadership and Success Award--for Excellence in Teaching (5/2012). She also facilitates workshops, seminars, forums and educational trainings for: Teens, Adults, Singles, and Couples, on issues pertaining to: Self-Esteem Building, Developing and Maintaining Happy & Healthy Intimate Relationships and many more. In September 2007, she developed and currently facilitates a personal empowerment group, at her church, Greater Quinn African Methodist Episcopal Church which is aptly titled, Positive Change.

 

Additionally, Dr. Martin has written an astute and illuminating article, based on her Doctoral Dissertation, What is the African American’s Experience Following Imago Education?, which was published in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology (4/2011). She was also featured in bestselling author, Hill Harper’s book, “The Conversation” (9/2009), and she recently completed her first book, “Quotes and Anecdotes—on how to Avoid the Yeah But Syndrome” (2/2010). Dr. Martin is also the resident psychologist, on the “Girl Bye” radio show, on WJLB-FM 97.9.

 

Finally, Dr. Martin is deeply passionate about her work and truly dedicated to working with, helping, educating and improving the lives of others. Because of Dr. Martin’s passion and dedication to her work, she is deeply committed to making a “positive difference”, in the lives of those that she touches.

PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 

*April 2008, founded the "Positive Change" Group, of Greater Quinn African Methodist Episcopal Church, where work is done, to help the needy and less fortunate.

 

*November 2009, article published in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology, based on her Doctoral Dissertation, "What is the African American's Experience Following Imago Education?"

 

*February 2010, self-published the self-help book, "Quotes and Anecdotes, on how to avoid the "YEAH BUT SYMDROME".

 

*May 2010, elected to serve on the Board of Trustees, at the Michigan School of Professional Psychology; her alma mater.

 

*May 2012, received the Excellence in Teaching Award, from the National Society of Leadership and Success, from Henry Ford Community College.

 

*May 2012, received the Certificate of Appreciation, for excellence in expanding and enhancing learning, from Oakland Community College's Student Life Organization.

 

*April 2014, received the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award from Oakland Community College.

 

*April 2014, received the Certificate of Appreciation, for participating in Noble Elementary/Middle School's Career Day.
